The Electronic Radiology Laboratory (ERL) is one of eight research laboratories within the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine. The ERL was originally established to investigate the role digital imaging technologies play in distributed radiology departments, and to enable delivery of clinical image information to the medical decision-maker.
The ERL continues to support new and innovative imaging technologies. It has an international reputation for: algorithm and open source software development, especially in the areas of DICOM and IHE communication/testing tools; database and information systems; and, image reconstruction and processing. The ERL has extensive experience using the Extreme Programming model for software development. The ERL works with the CCIR to support a range of information technology activities.
